Frequently Asked Questions

Once your appointment has been confirmed by the doctor, you will receive a link to our New Patient History questionnaire. This information, plus any medical records you email to us, will be reviewed by the doctor, and a medical record for your cat will be started in our software.

The doctor will text when she's en route to your location with her ETA, and will text again upon arrival. We've found it's best to make as little fuss about the doctor's arrival as possible (your cat will already know something's up), but if access to favorite hiding places can be eliminated by shutting a few doors, the visit will generally go smoother.

In the comfort of your own home, of course! Physical examinations are frequently done on the living room floor, but kitchen counters and dining room tables are preferred for doing procedures.

End of life visits can even take place in the sunshine of a patio or yard, weather permitting.

Appointments generally last one hour or more, allowing enough time for your cat to get comfortable with my presence, performing a full examination (or as much as the cat will allow), discussing your cat's situation, answering all your questions, and discussing our goals for your cat.

We've found that most cat people want to be involved in their kitties care, so your ZenCat vet does not travel with an assistant. This means you may be needed to hold, comfort, or distract your cat during the exam, or treatment. Please have your cat's favorite treats available, if needed, and you may want to prepare your questions in advance.

If you would prefer not to assist the doctor, then please request that we bring our veterinary assistant (there is an extra fee for this service.)

The current recommendations for Wellness exams are once per year ages 0-9, twice per year ages 10 and up, and 3-4 times per year for kitties with chronic conditions.

Sick kitties, or a cat receiving acupuncture, might require three to five visits, or more, before achieving health. The age of the patient, patient compliance with treatments, and patient co-morbidities will all affect the number of visits required.

The vast majority of cats tolerate acupuncture extremely well, with some kitties sleeping right through the treatment. We always start acupuncture with a relaxation point on the top of the head that works well enough to have allowed examination of a feral cat!

Our preferred payment methods are cash and checks. We also accept Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and all major credit cards.

Urgent ZenCat Feline Health Advisory

Over 20 cats in Southern California have become sick or died from H5 Bird Flu (formerly referred to as H5N1, and Avian Influenza A). These cats either drank raw cow’s milk, or ate a commercial raw diet with beef and poultry.

Please use the link below for more information on how to protect your cat from this fatal illness.
